Statement
Although architecture presents an irresistible promise for the improvement of our built environment, the architect has a profound disposition to steward implications on social, ecological as well as cultural levels. The architect must entertain the idea that the solution to a given site is not necessarily the construction of a building. One of the common misconceptions that architecture endures in popular culture today is that the architect creates buildings, when in fact I would argue that the architect is a (re)searcher in space-making, space-destruction and space-moulding.[edit]
Everyone has a style*, an inner sense of self. For me, this style surfaces through the relentless curiosity and the uninhibited drive to reveal new knowledge of past and present conditions. Architecture as a design discipline acts as a vehicle for this exploration. When this style is driven by an altruistic** and selfless stance towards future generations and the future of our planet, then the architect can truly find purpose.
* style: A language expressed by an individual or a group, which is derived from extensive exploration in the logic of proportions and the relationships of systems.
** altruism: The quality in a being to work for the greater good - to devote one's self to an end that benefits something other than that self.
